But if it's someone you went on a couple dates with and they seem like a perfectly fine well adjusted person who happened to be the victim of timing, taking the risk of having to press the block button in the case of a nasty rebuttal doesn't seem like much to ask.

TBH I'd rather be ghosted on than be told that I was wonderful but not quite wonderful enough and that she had found someone who was actually wonderful. Seems humble braggy to me.

Ghosting is cowardly. Unless they're batshit crazy, everyone deserves closure. I've sent a version of this generic message several times:

"Hi (name), hope you're doing well. Listen, I've really enjoyed getting to know you, but I'm not feeling a romantic connection/were compatible. All that being said, I think you're great and I wish you the best of luck! Take care."
